Empty house
Had to take my 17 year old doggy on a one way trip to the vet this morning. Already the house feels empty without the old boy, but it was time he went to the land of abundant hedgehogs. So sad to hold his paw and see him go though but it was very peaceful.

My condolences. Know the feeling of a suddenly empty house when you still expect to trip over the chap.
17 years was a good woofings for a mutt but I feel your pain.

I'm so very sorry for your loss tagh. Even when we know it is their time, the follow through has to be one of the most difficult things we will ever do.
The quiet, loneliness of the empty house is gut wrenching. I cried for weeks.
You had so many good years. Try to focus on those while you grieve.

All my sympathies, Tagh, it's devastating to lose a member of the family, nothing prepares you for it no matter how philosophical you try to be. We lost both our old Aussie girls last year and we had "Sweep" and "Bimbo" moments for weeks and weeks.
No-one to greet you with a waggy tail when you come in from being out, no-one to greet you when you go downstairs in the morning .... that deafening silence ....
We survived 6 months before Rafal found us ....

Been there twice. Feel your pain.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

We still speak about Blitz (died in November 2013) and his brother Blaze (died in December 2020) regularly with love and very fond memories and often a raised glass. They somehow never really leave us and your boy reached such a good age. Take care and let yourselves miss him gently. xx

So sorry to hear your news. 17 is a fantastic age and you’ve been given so much love during those years.
Freddy died aged 10, 3 years ago. Raffi will never replace any of my Old English (I’ve had 3), but Raffi keeps me on my toes and active, even though I’d vowed never to have another dog.
You will have many happy memories and eventually decide whether or not to have another to share your life.
Take care and best wishes.

I was so sorry to read that your boy had died, such a huge loss.
You were so lucky to have each other for all those years and you must have so many happy memories of him which will eventually soften your loss. You might eventually have another companion who finds you, but you’ll never forget your lovely boy.

It’s nearly 2 years since Dawnydog died. I would love another dog but OH isn’t keen. I still have some of her toys and things about the place. I know what you mean about empty house. Even now, when we come back in I look for the silly waggy tail greeting me.

With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never be empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way into darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine.........The Corpse Bride
