Frodo
We were back to see J-P yesterday. I had taken a video of Frodo scoffing a salmon + meal the evening before, which he said showed his kidneys must be working reasonably well or he wouldn't want to eat at all. After the blood test he came back looking rather pensive. The levels of Creatinine and Urea had both risen again, not so high as before. But there's a pattern showing now. Frodo goes on a drip and the C and U levels reduce, but the treatment puts a great strain on his heart condition - a very marked murmur. When we arrived home last Saturday he had what resembled a very mild fit. J-P said it could have been a mild fit caused by stress or a small reaction from his overe-stressed heart. Whichever it was looking at Frodo's health holistically, we all agreed it's not worth putting him through the stress of the drip any more.
So he will stay on his medicinal treatments and supplements, living as healthy and happy a life as we can all give him. He will continue to make us laugh every day. At some time his heart or kidneys will cause the inevitable and at that point we shall reluctantly let him go, knowing we've given him the best possible life we could.

Best wishes to all of you. We appreciate what that regime is like but, surely, for the best. Our collie is younger but he has gone along some years like that. Some days he wants nothing and will even pull away from a caress or groan at the discomfort caused but the following day, when you prepare to treat him with kid gloves he will be up for a play and even put in a little run to reward you - then "It's scram o'clock, where's my dinner?"

Best wishes V & Frodo.
He's a lucky little fellow having a mate who'll make the right decisions.
