UPDATE (again)

Today the vet felt all down his spine and tail. We had given him his tramadol about an hour before. The vet could feel where he is still sore, lower 2 vertebrae but he is distinctly better than the last time she saw him.

He's still being treated for a spinal infection so he's now on 2 different antibiotics, tramadol and metacam.

Tonight I picked him up to cuddle, he didn't cry like he has before, but the little b****** decided to give me a nose piercing, and boy did it hurt. I decided he could sleep on the floor so I didn't end up being nibbled. He has always been a biter, so I think this means he is feeling better.

Why do cats nip and bite when they're purring and having a cuddle?

Thank goodness he seems to be on the mend.

That must be such a relief MOTM2. I don't know why some cats nip like that, but perhaps it's a good sign if he's feeling better ...

So glad he seems to be improving MotM2.

As to biting, I wish I could tell you. One of our new arrivals - Lightning - loves to be stroked and petted. He will even jump up as the hand descends to stroke his head. Then rub his head down the side of my hand nd then I get a nip. No obvious reason except that perhaps he has become over excited.

@manonthemoon2 Great news. Not so great news about your piercing though

. Our cat also does the nibble thing - I've learnt to move away fast when I see it coming!

Sherlock has been on two types of antibiotics and metacam, yesterday we saw a real improvement in that he started getting up on furniture and his hammock, something he hasn't done for weeks. He is still dragging his tail though.

However, another xray already planned today has shown 2 abnormalities in his lower vertebrae and on examination by the vet he is still in a bit of pain around the area, his tail does have sensation, but the vet doesn't know why he won't raise it.

The vet recommended a Scan (to be done by a vet in Toulouse) because this will show 3D images of what is going on and if it can be fixed. An ordinary xray didn't give enough detail.

We've got to get to the bottom of it one way or another and I just hope it can be easily fixed.

That's great to hear he's improving MOTM2. If he's not in pain, it will greatly improve his morale.
The scans they can do today are amazing so I hope they find out what the problem is and can dop something about it.

It maybe that he associates moving his tail with pain so isn’t moving it

The appointment is with Vet Occitanie in Toulouse. Does anyone have any idea of them?

@manonthemoon2 Their website is pretty impressive, and they sound like a specialist vet clinic for scans, all kinds of surgery and even oncology. Sherlock should be in excellent hands.

Dr Florence THIERRY studied at Bristol Uni (excellent vet school there) and is the imagerie specialist. She most likely speaks English !!
