TaxForm/S1/Social charges

#11 Post by Sparkle »

Thanks Elsie - we both have UK old age state pensions plus we both have private pensions and we have some savings in the UK. We each have an S1 and we do tick the 8SH & 8SI boxes. Since having the S1s we have not been charged any social charges on our pension income. We do pay social charges on our interest at 7.5% plus 12.8% tax. Two years ago not having a clue why but it being suggested I did tick the 2OP box. I received a surprise email from the Impots saying 'According to our calculations, it is not in your interest to opt for taxation of your income from movable property at the tax rate instead of the single flat-rate withholding tax. To do so, click on the "Correct my tax return" or "Back to previous screen" button, then uncheck the 2OP box' so that's exactly what I did and don't go anywhere near the 2OP box now !

That's interesting. Should we apply for S1s, or have we missed the boat?

That will depend on whether the UK is your competent state or not.

Given you were both working in France prior to retirement, I think France is your competent state. In which case there never was a boat to miss.
