Attention the tax man cometh for your abbatement

#1 Post by Headers »

For 2026 tax it looks like the French govt are trying to change the 10% abatement for pensioners to a straight sum of 2000. So for pensioners on low incomes they will pay less tax. For those on higher incomes they will pay more.
Obviously a lot of people are going to kick off about this.

I’m amazed that the annual increase in thresholds has lasted as long as it has as it’s the easiest way for govt to reduce the tax abatements for everyone so I’m expecting that to be next.

Which is the way it should be! I saw a street interview with a pensioner who, with her OH, receives €6k+ but wh reckoned it was fair.
They won't go so far as many want and reduce the privileges of politicos and ex-politicos - they really would kick off.

As I understand it the proposed threshold is €2,000 per person so for a couple it's €4,000 against the current €4,399 per household so no big difference in this case.
I could be wrong mind you.

I suspect (although this isn’t clear at the moment) the 2000 will not be index linked and will reduce in real terms over the next few years.
The govt is also trying to revise the way ALD (affection long duree) is used. 14 million people have an ALD at the moment. A huge cost for the bankrupt health service. Renewals will become less frequent and a new post ALD surveillance category will come into being. This will pass some costs to mutuelle and individuals. Transport costs will also be reviewed.
