A couple of weeks ago after having that heart electric shock treatment, I woke up on the Saturday morning with the mother of all headaches, tried in vain to get a doctor, as I thought I was going to have a stroke or something. Next thing I know there is an ambulance in the drive and they won't take no for an answer, they whisked me off to the local hospital urgence, surprisingly very quiet in there and I was seen by a 12 year old lady doctor. After a couple of hours she deemed I was not having a cardiac or stroke and said I could go home. She seemed surprised when I questioned how that was going to take place, me in a dressing gown, pants and slippers, and with no one available to pick me up. Anyway to cut it short a bon de transport was issued and a taxi took me home. Yesterday I received a bill from the hospital for 9€, just says something about urgence treatment, first time I have ever had to pay or even hearing of anyone else having to.

Still, that is nothing compared with being seen and looked after on a Saturday, or indeed any day.

Having phoned the hospital it appears that the mutuelle certificate was not noted, so I have been asked to forward a scan of that then they will invoice Pacifica. I know it is a piddling amount but we pay 130€ plus a month, and get very little back in the way of reimbursement from Pacifica.

There is also the question of how quickly you are charged.

Most health organisations take the money immediately. On the other hand our centre d'imagerie takes your card payment but does not charge it to the card for 3 weeks - so allowing CPAM and any mutuelle the chance to put the money into your account.
