UK pensioners are entitled to free health care in the UK, and don't need an EHIC or equivalent. Just proof of being a UK pensioner.
I can't remember doing anything with mine and I've had it for 12 years ! I don't remember there being any sort of end or renewal date. Perhaps things have changed ....
May not be too helpful, but my Dutch card had to be requested to be renewed after the first year and thereafter it is issued automatically in November and valid at the end of the year.
