Quite so - he used to have ads on prime-time TV and I think the business owns many other high street opticians.

I don't have French TV and don't get out of our local area these days so I didn't know that.
Thanks for the correction.

On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

There's one here in Agen (47) but not much use to Lori in Vaucluse!!
I wear contact lenses so can't help but I did go to an Optic 2000 who gave me an exam. and a new lens to try, all for free.
There seems to be a time of year for opticians - I get numerous leaflets in the post box, think it's in the Autumn.

Thanks I plan to go to Optic 2000. I have seen the Optometrist, so now have my prescription. Just have to make the trip to the shop.

I did mention that my glasses cost nothing. You could search on Google for an optique mutualiste in your area.
Also I don't know which mutuelle you are with, but if cost is important, make sure they show you the frames which are free of charge. There has been some checking by Que Choisir I think and quite a few places did not display them as they want to make more profit.

I visited the opticians earlier this year knowing my prescription and specs weren't up to scratch. A basic eye test and was surprised to be told my existing specs were fine.
I knew they weren't so went, as usual, to Specsavers in the UK when visiting my daughter. As a type 2 diabetic l wanted a detailed eye check which they give. Extremely thorough and in depth and surprise surprise! A change in prescription and new specs bought.
I'll pay the money and get a proper service even though I could have had freebies here in France.

I didn't think opticians in France could do eye tests, only ophthalmologists, and getting an RDV with them is a 6-month wait. Most of the opthalmologs round here will only deal with 8-50 year-olds, as one pointed out to me after having made an appointment - and I didn't want a prescription (which they don't apparently do anyway) just a check on the state of my diabetic eyes.
If opticians in France can do eye tests I'll book one - please confirm!
