Nooooo....I didn't mean to decry your info, rsm. Just giving an insight into how it works round here. Thankfully, it sounds a lot more efficient and comprehensive in Brittany :)

Rip off hearing aid prices

I bought some aids here in Correze last year (Audilab) and I didn't have to claim anything it was all done by Audilab. I just paid them the balance (I bought class 2) but if I'd bought class 1 I would have paid zero. It was all very straightforward.

there is a massive difference between a class1 and a class2 hearing aid.
Class 1 aids being just amplifiers with no programmes and a class2 aid which can have many different auto settings, from picking out speech in a crowded room to integrated bluetooth.
When I hear (no pun intended)or read about people baulking at the price I ask would you pay 3 grand to have your car bodywork repaired, on a car that could be scrap in a month or be able to hear better in most situations, its a no brainer for me .
Having said that everybodies hearing is different,so someone who has minimal loss could be suited to basic amplifers more complex hearing problems may only be helped with better aids.
