Does anyone know the etiquette is getting a second MT opinion, please?

Sorry, Biggles, I am not sure what you mean by MT - I suspect it's doctor - in which case I don't know.

Not so much etiquette as practicality, but you can go to any MT (if they'll give you a RDV) for a second opinion. You won't be fully reimbursed though. Only visits to your own, nominated MT are reimbursed by CPAM. It's a bit of a tricky situation as things stand in certain areas of France, where there's a chronic shortage of MTs. Perhaps only to be undertaken if your own Doc is an understanding type

Ideally, you would tell your MT you want a second opinion so he can pass on your medical history to the second MT.

MT = médecin traitant = equivalent to a UK GP.

Thank you, Sue. I did know but it had vanished from my ancient brain when replying!

That explains why I have not received the 25€ refund from seeing a doctor at the same practice as mine as he was booked up, surely that can't be right can it??

Another way round is to ask for a referral.

I need to have both knees replaced but my MT was opposed on the grounds I was too young - too much football and basketball training as a youngster. Nonetheless he gave me a letter to present to a specialist; I was charged (48€ I think) but was reimbursed and she agreed with me and put the process in train.

I am pretty sure that your MT is your MT and a visit anywhere* else without a referral letter/ordinance will incur charges.

* even in the same building.
