The same happened with Lyme in the US - years ago far less was known about it. Today, with more and more people going into more remote areas, hikers, campers etc, the number of cases is increasing, so it's possibly the same with AGS. The US knows more about these diseases that we do in Europe and with communications being so much more advanced than they were 10 or 20 years ago, cases are being more widely reported.
