I think I read somewhere that pharmacies can now give antibiotics for an ecoli urine infection.

Is this correct or do you still need a prescription from the doctor?

It depends on your age, a pharmacy would not do a test or prescribe anything for my wife, becouse she was over 65, we were told that over 65 she had to see a doctor.

But it is worth asking.

My MT refuses to give a prescription he says its not an infection even though the lab says it is with significant bacteria.

All the antibiotics listed are all "sensible", I assume that means the opposite to resistant.

Has anyone ever used a video doctor for a consultation? How does that work?

I'm so fed up with our MT, not just for this but other reasons too.

@manonthemoon2 If you're unhappy with your MT, could you change to another ?
I did that a long time ago, before we moved here. My MT was unreliable re working hours and having just had a biopsy confirmed as cancer, it was the last straw.
My osteopath was also an MT and he was happy to take me. He organised the "changeover".

It may not be so easy today, and of course it depends where you live. But if you can change, go for it - it makes such a huge difference when you have confidence in your MT.

If you are symptomatic and have a positive urine culture I cannot understand why they haven’t given you anything
As an aside the’dipsticks’ are no longer recommended for use in the over 65s (in the UK certainly) as people that age tend to have bacteria etc in their urine anyway not causing issues. If someone presented symptomatically ie pain ,temperature ,increasing / new onset confusion then a culture would be sent and probably a broad spectrum antibiotic in the interim

I found some amoxicillin in our medicine drawer, so as the culture says sensible to this I've started myself on them, hope it helps quickly because today my lower bits are playing up nicely (probably something only a lady will know).
