GHIC CEAM cards

I just happened to look at my EHIC card yesterday. It expires next week. Easy to renew online so that is underway. It will be issued as a GHIC card. I also checked OH card. That expires end of the month so same again.
I then mentioned this to my mate who works in Paris. They checked their CEAM card and that had expired too. So it’s worth checking. I think there may be a few people who will need to renew their cards.

Thanks Headers. I've just renewed my EHIC a well - very easy on line and it arrived a couple of weeks later.
I've made a list of expiry dates - the next is my passport in 2026 when I will lose my nice red one

Our EHICs also just expired. I couldn't work out whether it should be EHIC or GHIC so phoned them. They have renewed it as EHIC even though they said it would be GHIC ... not sure if it is worth following up ... we have never used them, just have them as a fallback.

Thanks for the reminder. Ours expire in 5 days time and a trip to the UK is planned before the end of the month. Probably the only time we would be likely to need them.

Mme applied for her & me.
Got email confirmation in about 15min. with ref no. & saying normally received in 15 days. Mind you they obviously don't know French postal service but no rush here.

If you are talking about your UK HIC card, I don’t think that helps you in the UK, only overseas if you are covered by an S1. If you are talking about your CEAM card in the French system then that would cover you in the UK.

The issue with being taken ill in the UK is that as soon as you give a foreign address rabbits start running in every direction. (I know because it happened to me while I was employed in Germany.) I never worked for a French company so do not have a CEAM card. The GHIC shows that the UK is my competent state for health care and so stops the rabbits.

My understanding is that if you are a UK resident you get an GHIC card.
if you british but live in france, and receive your healtcare via an S1, the uk will issue an EHIC card,
If you are british and don't qualify for an S1, and pay into the french healthcare system, you request an EHIC from the french healthcare system.
