Air Fryers
What I want to know is : with all these fancy 'extra' plug-in grills/fryers/steamers which I see advertised is where the 'eck do folk keep them all?
We had to get the spare gas bottle moved down to the garage to free up a cupboard for my breadmaker and associated gubbins.
No way can I get any more devices into our kitchen, the ice cream maker lives in the bottom of a wardrobe already
. Never been used, either! Bought at a charity shop, still boxed and wrapped in all the original pacakaging. I undid it, looked at it, read the instructions then life got busy and whoa, I can buy ice cream ready-done

I find our Delongi air fryer very noisy.
I par cook potatoes, then drain them off before putting in the air fryer. I use a bit more oil than recommended, and a sprinkle of turmeric to help with the colour. I start them with a lower heat before turning up to full so they can crisp up

None of your comments have made me think of buying a fryer thingy, but interesting to see different views and cooking methods.
Oven chips are dead easy! Just heat your oven, tip them on a tray, timer set, turn half way through, re-set timer.
Done.
Home-made oven cooked potato wedges easy too, and low fat.

I do oven chips about 3 times a year, mainly for OH who gets spud withdrawal symptoms when we've had rice, pasta or couscous for a month or so. I occasionally buy those "gourmet" baby potatoes to eat in their skins. No preparation therefore, apart from boiling salted water.

Nor me, Liz but agree it's interesting to see what others do. We don't fry much and when we do, the frying pan is pretty good ! Left over spuds from the night before, sliced and fried in a little oil .... yummy.

Have never got oven chips to be like chips should be whether cooked on special trays, to the letter of the instructions or free hand, cheap or expensive. We have chips once a week deep fried in a fryer with rapeseed oil and now only use Costco frozen chips (prepared in Holland) as I can't find any others to give the same 'crisp coated chip' result.Liz wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 5:47 pm None of your comments have made me think of buying a fryer thingy, but interesting to see different views and cooking methods.

Beejay, I agree oven chips are not like 'proper' chips but they are ok. I always have to check the ingredients tho' as some use wheat starch; most don't but I check every time I buy.
Our cafe across the road makes real chips from local spuds - yum! (Although they have to resort to frozen in Summer if v busy and no decent chipping spuds available).
