France in Focus

Many years ago, on a booze cruise, I remember buying what I thought was the equivalent of a really cheap Bacardi, a bottle of white rum, with the description of Rhum Agricole, I can also remember it tasting like, not that I have ever tried it, paint brush cleaner. Since that experience I have always steered clear of anything with Agricole or Spiriteux ? written on the label. Is this a rough form of white rum drinkable only by French farmers?

@hughnique Rhum agricole is made from cane sugar as opposed to molasses. Most rum in France comes from Martinique and French-speaking Caribbean islands where it's strictly controlled.

I've always disliked the taste of rhum agricole and would rather have traditional British rums as opposed to the French-made stuff.

Any rum is acceptable when mixed with fresh mint from the terrasse, fresh lime juice from the terrasse, home-made lemonade and ice Yum!

Mojito? That's the only time I drink rum.

Lovely idea, thank you! But if the fuel refinery strikes continue, better be prudent and have a home mojito instead (no driving needed either! ).
