Buzet Coop on the rocks

#1 Post by Headers »

The Buzet wine co-op has been mired in financial trouble for well over a year now and next week could well be the coup de gras.
Tens of millions in debt, millions of bottle of unsold wine, vignerons going unpaid, court cases, employment tribunals. What a mess.
Our neighbours have been ripping up vines all winter and are finding other income streams but I fear for their futures.
What I cannot understand is who was supposed to be giving the oversight to this operation and who will be held accountable.

Oh that's bad news! I'd read about the difficulties they faced and really hoped that they'd pull through. Absolutely the best wines in the region IMHO. Just so long as the Marmandais bunch don't get hold of it

There are numerous independent vignerons in the Buzet appellation who left the coop( or never joined ) because they realised what was happening.

Yes, thank goodness for that. It will probably bump up the price in the grandes surfaces and restaurants...supply and demand.....but still worth it :)
