Tax relief on Home Help Invoices

#1 Post by Bayleaf »

Apparently, once you are of a certain age and need more help around the home and garden, you can claim these expenses on your Tax Return.

Anyone know more about this and what criteria is needed by the person providing the service in order for the invoices to qualify?

I think I may have semi-answered my own question - but it may help others who may qualify:

Any further info. still gratefully received!

We used this for the first time last year to do some garden work that would have taken us about a month and likely put one of us in hospital.
We used a cooperative who sent us an approved company. They quoted for the work, they came and did it in 5 days, we paid, they sent us a form to support our tax declaration. We got 50% of the cost back from the tax system - didn’t have to send in paperwork just keep the document safe.
We will be doing the same this year! It means we can stay in this house a little longer than we had thought. Max spend for garden work in a year for tax relief is 5k.

And for non-taxpayers?

The client who is asking about this also doesn't pay tax. She's thinking it might reduce her income declaration just enough to qualify for aid for those heat pump things. I have to find out if I'm actually the correct type of service provider to issue relevant invoices for garden help.

Otherwise, I don't see any benefit!

@Sparkle

Thank you - I see the maxium is 5k - so no problem there. Just need to know if my regime is acceptable before I stick my head above the turrets and it backfires!
