Insurance is the big moneyspinner for banks since interest rates plummeted, so I'm not surprised. Some banks indeed offer competitive insurance (car, house, etc.), but the funeral scam is a non-no for me.
No reason why they shouldn't let you open a deposit joint a/c (provided you trust your OH) as they invest your dosh on the money markets and pay you 0.0000001%, if that.
