I suppose this is another angle. So far I've looked at https://consultation.avocat.fr where they are listed for Agen along with their spoken languages. Only 2 speak English. But it's worth trying your suggestion - thanks.

How to find an Avocate
OK but I could make an appt then find out he doesn't speak English then will have to fork out for the consultation. It actually wouldn't matter too much to start with as most of my "evidence" is emails which I've printed out.

How to find an Avocate
I need to get the go-ahead from the insurance company then I can get the repairs done - I've approached 2 electricians but so far no response - hardly surprising. The only damage are the wires within the fuse box but then my guy says I need a new supply from my house (he's too busy to do the job himself). As I've been insuring my house with this company for the past 19 years I've been expecting better service. All I've been waiting for is an "expert" to come.
However, you have given me useful information so I will look at CERFA - thanks.

How to find an Avocate
Quite a few Advocats in Agen speak English but only 2 out of 9 say their experience is in insurance.
Does this matter? If not then I have quite a few more to choose from. Any thoughts on this please?
Till then, I'll try the other avenues.

@Leyla There's a lot to sift through here but there are websites to look at - hope you have the time.

Probably too shy.
A word of caution re the "small-claims court" - it too can take an age. We sued an avocat who didn't pay our bill. I got judgment, then found that I had to pay a huissier €hundreds to serve it! Ridiculous.
It would be better, quicker and cheaper to use a mediation service, CCLV / Que Choisir etc.

@MAD87 a couple of years back we took out legal insurance at 91 euros a year - I did wonder if it was worth it - now I think it is!

@Leyla The CLCV have branches all over the country, not just in the north. For example there are branches in Bordeaux, Toulouse and Cahors, but unfortunately not Agen. Just type in the name of any big towns that are within a reasonable distance of where you live and you may find one.
I agree with MAD87 that this could be a quicker and cheaper route to go. You wouldn't have to pay anything to have a chat with them and they would advise you where to go from there. Have a read through what they offer on their website (use an online translator if you get stuck).

Avoid the legal route if at all possible. By all means threaten it but don't go down that route if you can avoid it. If/when you win, you may be awarded costs. These will not be what it has cost you but rather some notional cost based on what I know not but if it is lawyer fees then it is based on 1960s costs.
