It is the scanning of the passport that records entry and exit. Stamping is really just the theatrical part!

It doesn’t yet record it. That will come later this year.

That makes sense.

We're off to Jersey for a couple of days. It'll be interesting to see if anything changes going there and coming back.

In my wife's case 'France' stamped her British passport on exit & re-entry.

Do you have evidence for that?

I have strong suspicions that data from the chips and perhaps other tracking systems has been going on for more than a decade.

Otherwise rationalise this:

Arrival at a UK port, and a comment from border control. "will this be a pleasure trip this time sir?"
Previously arrivals had been by air for business purposes with departure within 72 hours.

They know far more than we give them credit for.

Because she didn’t have her resident Carte, hope she doesn’t have an issue when she next leaves.

Why should she?
The carte quite clearly shows the date it was issued as being over a year ago so unless forgetting to take her CdS with her is an offence, what could be the problem? :)

Quite - the issue I raised is NOT having residency of some sort and NOT getting your passport stamped.
