Any signs of spring?

Bright sunny days but a continuing cold north east wind - but we get this every year here. No rain to speak of for weeks now and it's just the time when the plants need it.

Violets are in flower across our lawn and periwinkle too at the edges of the paddocks.

Violets are looking lovely in our garden too, and periwinkle is in flower too. Snowdrops are finished, crocuses nearly done but primroses are out in their hundreds; the first flowered a few weeks ago, but now those that don’t get much sun have joined them. With those and lovely birdsong it’s a huge pleasure to be out cutting back shrubs despite the cutting wind.

RobertArthur, that's a lovely photo of a chaenomeles bush; ours are only just opening.

Hereabouts we get no primroses, but a close runner-up that flowers profusely is the cowslip. A friend posted a photo of some near their house yesterday. No doubt the ditch banks are full of them now.

Our primroses are just about coming out now, but cowslips are a good 6 weeks later.

Look through any window and what do you hear?

Set us free, little Robert, all you gotta do is set us free.

You know you can do it if you try.

All you gotta do is set us free, free

Every spring a dozen or so of these little lovelies come up in the lawn. This year is no exception. Good excuse not to cut the grass download/file.php?mode=view&id=3391
