Travelling around this part of Nouvelle Aquitaine it never ceases to amaze me how every town, village and Bourg has a Town Hall at it's heart. Some are very small, no bigger than a detached garage, whilst others are grand monuments to the Municipalitie. Here's a selection from around here (Gironde). Can you share a picture of yours ๐Ÿ˜Š

In the old days the Mairie was also the village school, separate entrances for girls and boys of course and usually on the wings of the building like this one in Paillet.

Most of the larger towns boasted grand buildings reflecting the wealth of the town and importance of the Maire and other elected officials.Like this one in Castillon la Bataille.
