Photo software for computers

#1 Post by Blaze »

I've downloaded Darktable (for Mac) and cannot for the life of me see how to upload photos onto it  Is it correct that DT asks to access your desktop ?
I don't use a Cloud just the photo handler that comes with the computer. Any photo I want to fiddle with gets put on my desktop and uploaded to the software from there.
I'm not computer illiterate and am used to full versions Photoshop and other logiciels, so advice and help gratefully received :D

On a PC you click on Import (top left) then
add to library... then
select the folders containing the images and click on add to library (bottom right of that window)

This is what I get when I click on "ajouter à la bibliothèque". How do I select the photo from my desktop ?

If you click on dossier personnel you should get a list of all your folders. You'll have to select the one with your images and drill down. Or have you tried expanding the Photos Library and Bibliotheque under Pictures

If you want, you can go to the "cog" (below table lumineuse) to get darktable preferences and can change the language in general

Many thanks for the suggestions, Elsie. The language isn't a problem, I'm used to French versions.

Although Darktable is supposed to be compatible with Mac OSX, it seems more geared up for PC/Windows.
DT says it isn't allowed to access my Desktop files or my Finder Documents so perhaps it's a security issue. I had already looked at the DT user manual which didn't help, which is why I've asked here.
I'll leave it for the moment.... Gimp has improved dramatically since I last used it so will have a go there.

Darktable is written for linux and ported to various other operating systems.

You also could try RawTherapee.
