The Uk government shot itself in the foot when they said there would be no more lockdowns etc ,they can’t do an about face without upsetting a big chunk of the population,if they don’t do an about face they will upset a different big chunk,should have left options open

It doesn’t have to be a lockdown if they act early. Just a look at France, Spain, Germany, Italy where vaccination pass, mask wearing and distancing are having a positive impact. It will be interesting to see how the situation in Scotland evolves now that a vaccination pass has been implemented. In France it has been estimated that the pass sanitaire has caused an additional 10m people to get vaccinated.

Hence why I said lockdowns etc ,there are plenty of other actions that can be taken , unfortunately given this governments form they will likely leave it until lockdown is the only way to go

I find it impossible to comprehend why the UK government is refusing to act.
The hospital admissions and deaths may be relatively low, but the number of new cases prove that the virus is still circulating - and the more it is allowed to circulate, the more chance mutants have to appear...how long before a vaccine-resistant mutant evolves?

We're getting young people coming to the Centre for their first vaccinations since the PCR test became payant. They've actually been quite positive about it, possibly because in Brittany most people have been vaccinated at least once. They can see we haven't grown horns and a tail having being vaccinated ...

In Jersey masks are no longer obligatory though I don't know how long this has been the case. However, Specsavers was an exception, possibly because of the close contact when having your eyes tested. But Jersey isn't quite like the UK !

Vaccines are evolving all the time so we can only hope they keep pace with any possible variants.

In Martinique where Covid is rife and medical personnel are struggling, it has just been announced that the pass sanitaire i.e. being vaccinated, is no longer obligatory for hospital workers - the CHU there has given in to the antis. The situation in Martinique is increasingly difficult and health workers and government members have been threatened - they're fighting a losing battle against superstition and voodoo.

My step-dad's wife tested positive, after two tests, about 10 days ago when she was feeling poorly. Don't know how long she'd been ill before she relented and thought "could this be Covid?", as they're both doubly vaccinated and she said she's really careful, and said she'd never get it. On the up side, it doesn't sound like she's suffered much, as she didn't even need paracetamol, just suffered tiredness and a bit of a sore throat. Now hoping beyond hope she doesn't give it to my step-dad, as he's much older and already pretty frail.

It's not easy at this time of year to know whether the symptoms are Covid or just a cold or sore throat. I confess that even though we're vaccinated, our first thought on getting a sort throat was "Is it Covid ?" though we doubted it. 1 nasal and 1 nasopharyngeal PCR test showed us negative.
Being vaccinated should give you step-dad some protection from the worst symptoms.

A friend over in the Lot phoned this afternoon.
Told us of other friends of theirs who managed to go back for their sons wedding, it having been put off a few months ago.
They came back appalled at the attitude there, with no one wearing masks nor using hand gel sanitiser. Carrying on as if theres nothing wrong.

At the memorial for Sir David Amess on Monday, spot the difference between Tories and Labour mask-wearing (and note the total absence of their buffoon of a leader!)
