£100 might be ott but I remember the figure he gave seemed inordinately expensive.
That would be about double our weekly wage in 1975.

My late uncle was employed for about 15 years driving this sort of thing.

@ Hotrodder, about your late uncle. I was a bit surprised, I would have expected this picture.

Your photo is more likely to be my grandfather. He and my grandmother both rode motorcycles before emigrating to USA after the war. Oddly, neither could drive a manual shift car at all. He once had a breakdown and the garage loaned him a car to get home. It was manual and he used only first gear all the way home, several miles.
