A German biker (name?) in the roaring twenties, inspiration for one of the students or teachers in the Bauhaus Movement.

Those were the days, aerodynamic flat cap and plus fours. Where was all the fireproof clothing then.

Those were the German BMW days. The production line of the racebike in the Bauhaus Museum in the city of Weimar. More pictures: the R37 and the R47.

I do love the old motorcycles. Hate the modern ones with all that ridiculous plastic that takes an hour to remove before you can get a spanner near it. They've gone the way of the modern cars. Pretty much identical, no character, and they nearly cost as much as a car.

This Harley, a price tag of more than 40 K? An investment. The same goes for a real bicycle, more than a century ago, picture from the depths of the family archives in shoe boxes. You bought such a bicycle for life, also an investment. Modern days are here to stay: seeing the pricelevel of a sports bicycle I thought: what's going on? This is four times more than for my first second hand Mercedes diesel with only 100,000 km on the odometer. The magic frontier for many a proud car owner, Oh Lord, I have to buy something new....sooner or later it is going to break down. And I'll be standing there all alone, on a rainy day along a roadside, singing: Where have all the good times gone...

Oh yes, you gotta have carbon fibre. So fashionable. So light. So popular with bike thieves.

Here's a little factoid for ya. In the US so many drivers have never driven a manual shift car that it is now seen as a theft deterrant. The thieves are so used to automatics.
