@Spectrum eeeerrrrr bah humbug comes to mind

I love it cos after my dad died when I was 9 yrs my mum became a Jehovahs Witness who don't believe in Christmas so for me no pressies, trees, baubles, Christmas dinner etc. When a friend came to stay bringing her pressies with her I had some Avon Pretty Peach items that mum had bought for me some weeks earlier ie soap on a rope, bubble bath, talc etc that I wrapped up in newspaper so as not to feel left out
When OH got to know about it he said I was always going to have a good Christmas even though he was bah humbug at the time - he's not now - not possible with me around

Has anyone noticed that while watching a film, the ad interruptions are more closely spaced the nearer the end the film? I hate that. And then wonder if people really are so weak-willed that they feel compelled to go out and buy this sh*t just because they've been bombarded with the TV ads. No. I don't wonder. They sucked up Brexit didn't they so perhaps the ads do actually work and the companies write off the expensive TV ads against their taxes. Yippee! Three cheers for consumerism.niemeyjt wrote: ↑Sat Nov 13, 2021 4:19 pm Does anyone actually think "I need to go shopping at X because their Christmas Ad is so good?"
I suspect proximity and/or pricing is the deciding factor for most people - and with a bit of planning and forethought, better savings can be made shopping online with singles day and black Friday deals particularly attractive.

I rember Ajax being a powder, in a cardboard container like Pringles. If you left it on the wet countertop it left a rusty ring. It was good stuff though. Good and gritty with a bit of bleach in it to sting your hands.

@Hotrodder yep and the same with the container of Vim - can you still buy this stuff? It did clean the loo very well especially with a heavy duty bog brush.

@Sparkle

Not many people know that, well, I didn't anyway. I used to look forward to their visits, nothing like a bit of factual banter on the doorstep, but then I noticed that they hadn't been for a while and wondered why. Then my wife told me she had been sending them away with a flea in their ears.Jehovahs Witness who don't believe in Christmas

@Spardo I tell them that my mum murdered my dad! She wasn't a fully fledged JW when he died - he would never have allowed it but he needed a blood transfusion to possibly save his life (leukaemia). He asked mum what she thought and she said she couldn't agree to it being a JW. He believed her rationale and consequently that was that. A good talking point for the knockers as they don't know how to respond and I don't tell them that was back in 1965.

When I was trading in the UK, our shop parade had a bed shop run by J.W.s I remember him the head honcho coming in and buying all his staff a microwave each at Christmas time, perhaps he was a part time one?
Worse than that were the Brethren, they wouldn't even have a cup of tea with you, no radio in the van and definitely no mobile, really strange lot, one of the reps even started a row with a customer in my shop because the customer said Christ, that's dear about the price of a camera battery, he got a right bollocking afterwards about keeping his beliefs the other side of my door.
As for bog brushes, are the toilets' a different shape on the back here as after every visit copious use of the bog brush is compulsory either that or my pose is different or something has migrated towards my head somewhat, missus says I talk a load of crap anyway.

We've wondered the same thing. It might be the shape of the pots - I don't remember having to use a brush in the same way before we came here. It's more likely to be that the chemicals used today etch the surface of the porcelain, and damage it. Ajax scourer ruined enamel baths ...
Or perhaps the chasse d'eau isn't as powerful.
Our first house in France had one of these, a Griffon. It had a fantastic flushing action ! They're still around but expensive.
