Saved me a trip to the tip

#1 Post by L Austin France »

I was talking to a couple in our commune who happened to mention they were on their way to
her mums house to do the weekly washing as their machine was kaput & they couldn't afford another what with xmas etc.
I mentioned that I had a machine in storage which we bought new not long before we moved to France about 19 years ago but which we'd never used as we purchased the contents of our first house which included a machine. My missus didn't want to use it when the old machine died a few months ago & bought a new one so it was on it's way to the tip.
They jumped at the offer & duly collected said machine after digging it out of the barn where it had been stored & de-mucking it of years of dirt.
I suggested that it might not work after all this time & might have been attacked by mice/damp etc but this morning they messaged me to say it was working fine & how delighted they were with their new old machine.

I’ve got a fairly new washing machine in one of my sheds. Giving it away might not be too charitable though as it’s one of the Whirlpool ones that might catch fire. A friend bought it new in the U.K. and brought it to France. When the recall happened Whirlpool (U.K.) accepted that it was one of the potentially dangerous ones but wouldn’t do a replacement or refund without being given the machine. Whirlpool in France said it’s not their problem. My friend bought a new machine here and carried on a conversion with Whirlpool hoping to get a refund at some point but with Covid hasn’t been back to the U.K. in her car for almost two years. I’m sure that the washing machine will end up at the déchèterie before long but we will have to smash it up a bit first just in case someone thinks it’s far too good to be scrapped.

Wonderful to be able to do that.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.
