But in those days, an RN basic training first aid course was far more in depth and suited to serious injury than the basic first aid course of today !
I agree with [mention]Pathca[/mention] that doing a first aid course is very worthwhile - knowing how to react quickly can be lifesaving. Many schools are beginning to teach first aid to pupils. The Croix Rouge demonstrate and teach the primary first aid gestures (IPS) for free to encourage people to take a full first aid course (FPS).

We used to run our local RedCross center when back in the uk many years ago, yes a first aid course is a life saver, just putting someone in the recovery position can save a life, I had 7 year olds who could put me in one.
I won't go into the large first aid kit which I used to carry in my car.
Got it out twice over the years here in france on coming across car accidents.

I’ve got one of the older boxes on the boat. I use the sticking plaster roll every now and again and it’s fine. The scissors haven’t gone blunt yet either. The bandages look fine for another 25 years of inactivity.

I still believe in Breathing, Bleeding, Burns and Bones as priorities most accidents cause minor problems plenty of time to get to a hospital but when the s.... hits the fan bleeding is is the most problematic Your own mouth and fists/hands can deal on their own with the first problem but you need plenty of sterile compressants not sticky plasters for rapide bleeding

I always carry a couple of sanitary towels in my first aid kit - excellent compresents and blood absorbers. Learnt that from a first aider, outward bound mountain climber when I was a scout leader in another life.
