That's not at all what I meant, as Pathca says ! Confiscating their money/assets (if they can find them) and making them do community service for the term of their prison sentence would be more useful and constructive. Community service for fraudsters and those without financial means/assets would be far more beneficial than locking them away where they'll gain more dubious "skills".niemeyjt wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 10:09 amSo a tax evader with money can buy their way out of prison whereas those without (such as a benefit fraudster) cannot?Blaze wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 9:46 amSentencing isn't always straightforward, hence the guidelines.
Personally, I'd rather see those who are a physical danger to the public locked up than tax evaders. People like Becker, Lester Piggott etc are punished by depriving them of their liberty, but depriving them of their money might be more punitive than taking up space in the already overcrowded prison system.
Certainly not house arrest where BB can live in comfort ! Get him out doing something useful - supervised community service.
The community service aspect is no small matter and needs to be looked at more closely. It could benefit both the community and the offenders.
