Yes, the 50s, even now I can easily singalong to all the lyrics of many of them, including the Everlys'. Is Phill still with us? I had a feeling that he had already gone before.

Like many brothers and sisters, they were estranged for many years, my wife at 78 and her older sister haven't spoken for over 20, after her Mum's funeral we had 2 separate wakes in pubs half a mile apart. Fran and older brother with many offspring and partners in one, 2 sisters likewise in another.

My brother (4 years younger) and I fell out big time and didn't speak for many months, would have been longer but thank goodness for our tiny Mum who insisted on returning from Spain, setting up in a Nottingham hotel while refusing to stay with either family, and summoned us (just her boys, no wives) to her presence. The ensueing lecture was uncomfortable but did the job. So happy it did, he died later of a brain tumour, 26 years ago. If only she was here now, I am sure, unlike me, she could heal the long running rift between my daughter and her Mum, my first wife, again only half a mile apart.

Phil died back in 2014.
Don't start me on famillies [mention]Spardo[/mention] I'm the fourth one of six, the oldest living, and we hardly ever kept in touch.
My old man was one of 13 only ever met two of my uncles on his side, knew all on mums side
After my divorce with first my eldest daughter disowned me just a card at christmas, hence I've one grandson who I've seen twice in 25 years.second lives here in France but hardly hear from her.
As the saying goes you choose your friends but are stuck with familly.

On the plus side, I am impressed by, despite 'abandonment' by me over 40 years ago, all my children and step children are happy and keen to keep in touch. The steps especially as they are the children of my first wife, even in their 50s they still call me Dad, never by my 1st name which seems to be more the norm these days. I feel humbled and ashamed sometimes.

No need to apologise to me Doug, t'is your thread that's drifted.

I don't know much about the Everly Bros t'was before my time I'm afraid. My mum liked them they were on the short list to be played at her funeral, but I can't remember now if we went with them or Adam Faith who she also liked, too long ago for my brain to remember.

There I even managed to cover both subjects in one post.
