Incompetence at it's finest

#1 Post by hughnique »

I have recently had the dubious pleasure of dealing with HMRC over a tax refund on behalf of my daughter in law, who lives in America. As one would expect, every time you ring you get a different assistant, and it involves explaining time after time, the situation that I am trying to deal with, "I'll put that on your notes, so if you have to contact us again it will be explained to whosoever is dealing with it on the day". Right dream on, it was never put on anything so as to make it any easier, one mare terminated the call as it was getting too complicated for her pea sized brain to fathom out, but eventually they actioned payment to be credited to my UK bank account, that will take a few days sir.
A week later nothing so I rang again and eventually after all the rigmarole, I was told payment had been initiated a week ago, I said it was not in my account as yet. Slowly but surely the advisor admitted that instead of crediting my bank account they had sent me a cheque, absolute lunacy, what's the use of a GBP sterling cheque here in France, very apologetic advisor and another week on the cheque arrived in the box. Now it needs to be popped in the post back to my son in the UK, who could pay it in at a branch of HSBC, after posting I hear the postman in the UK are on strike, so more delays, however it arrived a few days later. He took it in to a branch, evidently there are no cashiers at banks any more, so he collared an assistant and explained 3 times that he was paying in a cheque for his father, who resides in France, all she kept asking was did he have his bank card, he banks with Barclays, so why she wanted to see that god only knows, eventually he got it sorted and hopefully it is paid in, I am told it has been "posted" to my account, but will take 7 working days to clear, why so long I am unaware of the reason for that, but hopefully it will appear sometime this week and I can then transfer it to the daughter in law. Progress I don't think so, and I was informed by HMRC that it should never have been taxed in the first instance as it was part of a death benefit.

What a nightmare - over the years we've had a lot of bother with deliveries due to our road name change which we were told we had to use from March 2019. I've sent numerous emails to The Mairie asking when will the old name road signs be replaced but no replies whatsoever so they've beaten me, I've given up and bought myself this........which is in the 'man cave' but I go and visit said 'man cave' and it cheers me up no end especially with two kittens as all I seem to do is clear up their s**** :D

Similar but different thing here.
Our commune were very quick to put up new signs indicating the change from Lieu Dits along our road but 'planted' the horizontal plaques in very narrow verges with the result that the signs were quickly swiped off by wide vehicles which overhang the verge.
Being without signs, which somewhat ruins the 'meticulous planning' involved in the changes, I've written to & visited our service technique umpteen times suggesting they simply remake the signs with vertical letters to avoid the overhang.
Well, they're on the ball replacing the damaged/lost signs & have just replaced 'em with ....more horizontal jobbies which I'm betting won't see the week out.

@L Austin France Good luck with the new signs :?: I'd like to see new signs. As we live on a corner of two 'D' roads we get numerous delivery vehicles stopping and asking where our 'new' road is so much so that I've now printed and laminated and glued an explanation to our letter box to help!
