That's that for this year

#1 Post by L Austin France »

Finally got motivated this week & with 10 hrs graft, assisted by a pal & very small but strong & determined wife, got this years firewood split & stocked in the barn with access direct from the house without going outside.
The chestnut wood has been dry stored in rounds in our outside wood shed & oak stored around where it was felled.
Everything apart from 5 large oak trunks is now under cover & that plus a load of split chestnut stored in a mate's barn should give us enough for 3-4 seasons.

Its a great feeling when that job is finished. This year we bought from a source recommended by a friend. Expensive but not crazy. It was good stuff, properly dry with no twiggy crap mixed in and his idea of what constitutes a corde is the same as mine. So glad we bought it early, so many people leave it until the last minute and then cry crocodile tears when they can't find any.
This guy (French) ticks all the boxes for us and never again will I buy from an expat ripoff merchant.

That’s a lot of work and an impressive pile. I’m waiting for some cooler weather to move some more wood inside.

We've got three loads (cordes) of metre lengths stacked under cover. One more load expected next week, and we'll cut that up as we need it during the winter.

We don't have the time/energy/inclination/you name it, to do it all in one hit. That's just showing off! :D
