Thank you all for the info - all I have to do now is get myself the wizzy thing and some poudre.
With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never be empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way into darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine.........The Corpse Bride

Saves a lot of elbow grease.
I'd thought of that but worried that I'd leave the brush &/of few screw together rods up the flue if I put the drill in reverse.
The ones I bought have a button lock so this can't happen.
The idea of the rig getting stuck up the flue would be a nightmare indeed. My set of sweeping sticks have a clever trick. A right handed thread links the sticks and then a sliding sleeve that threads over the top to lock them from unscrewing. I still instinctively avoid reversing the direction of the drill but it wouldn't matter if I did.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

In the UK our sweep used a hook which screwed onto his rods - it was 1 in shape and, with some jiggling would slide past/through anything. He used it to remove bird's nests but it would bring back an errant rods and brush set.

Yeah, there's always ways to recover the things but I'd rather not have to try 'em. ;)
