Advice on holiday booking.
Me and DW are hotel virgins
in 41 years we have only stayed for three nights in a hotel, we was caravanners. So as a follow on from our trip next year Iam trying to get hotels booked, a total of twelve in four separate countries, the search engines come up with (Bookings.com) all the time, there must be others out there, and Iam sure some of you will have had good and bad experience of these company's, how do they work, do they block book in advance? thanks for any help.

I've used bookings.com often & found them to be reliable. One advantage is that you usually don't have to pay in full until 24/48 hours before your stay.
Another option is to go directly to the hotel's website which can often be slightly cheaper.

I agree with demi always check the hotel's website first. Sometimes it's cheaper and sometimes you can get other "options" with your booking. i.e one hotel we used had parking as an extra charge on booking.com, but was free if you booked with the hotel.
We've mostly had good experiences with booking.com, the exception was a time when they took a booking for a villa that was no longer being let. I only found out when I thought it odd that no money for a deposit was taken near the time we were supposed to be going. We had to rent with someone else, by which time we had little to choose from and ended up costing us more.
