I note that panic buying of fuel is causing stations to run out across France today.

I also decided in the dark hours that Trump is actually an OILOGARCH.

No rush at all at our local Intermarché this morning. But we've filled both cars and a large jerrycan as a precaution (we've already done a first grass cut). It may be a while before the effects are felt.

@Hotrodder and
Yes, Germany borrowed more money from the US in the thirties than they were paying in reparations.

I'm glad to see Starmer is standing up to Trump. It's time more people did so.

Is he though? I thought he had agreed to allow the US to use British air bases in Cyprus and suchlike? Has he changed his mind?

Remember Starmer was a lawyer.
BBC wrote:Sir Keir Starmer took questions from MPs for around two-and-a-half hours, spelling out that he thought the American and Israeli actions were not right and implying they were not lawful either - but that it was both right and lawful to authorise the US to use UK airbases to bomb Iranian missile launch sites, in order to protect British allies in the Gulf from attack.

Not Cyprus (yet) and the bases may only be used for defensive activities, so the likes of bombers would not be allowed.

Macron has just given a speech on the news. He and Germany have the same stance as Starmer, i.e. will not attack Iran which would be unlawful, but France is sending ships (including the carrier Charles de Gaulle) to the Mediterranean for defensive activities.

Something I heard which I believe Netahyahu said : If Israel knocks out Hamas, there is always another extremist Islamic group (such as Hezbollah) who wants to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. Israel has everything to lose if seriously attacked - there would be no coming back.

Rather glad that we pumped 1000 litres of oil into the central heating tank last week.
Not that any foreknowledge or guessing was involved. It was just that the village has decided that last week was a good time to organise a collective top up. How right they were.
