A similar initiative here : Saint-Malo is sending a lorry load of hygiene (soap, nappies, toothpaste, shaving stuff, in-date medication etc) and medical (masks, gloves, gowns, antiseptic, and materia medica etc) basics from their Banque Alimentaire.

I'm wondering if some people would offer accommodation to evacuees but can't afford to support them i.e. food, clothing, medicine etc. Do people who volunteer get any financial assistance?

The government may try to do something should refugees come to France but it has spent a small fortune giving aid to businesses and workers because of Covid. There may be some sort of help for associations and official local bodies, but I doubt individuals will get any help.

Here in Dordogneshire weve just received the list from our mayor for donations.
We are putting our name down to give accommodation for up to four people, some refugees have already been placed in 24.

My friend travelled from Paris today. A young girl was sitting in someone’s seat. She tried to apologise and said she came from Ukraine and had no ticket. The seat next to my friend was spare so she sat there. They talked all the way from Paris to Agen. She was very positive about Ukraine and her return to finish her studies. The poor girl was travelling on to Toulouse and then somewhere else to stay with a family friend. She hadn’t eaten for 24 hours. Sandwich and coffee were supplied. Then the ticket lady came and provided her with a packed lunch and asked if she needed any more help. How lovely everyone is.
