My Dad would have said "carbon tetrachloride" that he brought home from work but I don't know where you'd get it now.

Very hard to get now because it has been found to be very carcinogenic.
Ditto Ethylene trichloride - the solvent used in the past by dry cleaners.

So very effective but best avoided.

Trich was used as a vapour degreaser at chrome plating workshops. Not to be messed with.

OK. Elastane doesn't like hot water, which is a pity because normally to remove grease you need hot water. So my method would be to apply savon de marseille soap and gently rub it in. Use a bar of soap. Then dissolve some cristaux de soude in hot water, allow it to cool to around 30 degs and then soak the garment.

You might need to do the soap stage more than once.

Unfortunately grease stains are always difficult, especially if you wash and iron before dealing with stain.

Good luck. It would be sad to lose a good dress.

Have you tried using Acetone (nail polish remover)? Very effective on stains.

Acetone quickly melts some plastics. Is Elastane a plastic?

Thanks everyone, I'm pleased to say I used the Fairy washing up liquid method, cold water sprayed on the area and put it through a 30° wash. The stains have now gone . I'll wear a pinny next time lol
