I cut the plasterboard sheets in half, the extra joints don't matter because I plaster it...I gave up trying to tape and fill joints years ago.

@Crystal long ago I purchased a plasterboard lift thingy, the two of us lift it on and I then wind it up, ceilings, slopes and once a awkward high wall.

Doug, I have a PB lifter and yes, it's great!
I wouldn't even try to plasterboard celings by myself, but when I'm on my own doing walls and OH has left the sheets in another room, or downstairs, I have to cut them in half to shift them.
I've tried many times to move a full sheet by myself, but it always ended badly...for me and the board!

I also have a PB but with some modification and some welding, I use it to lift up the hanging baskets, I then climb the ladder and pass the hook through the screwed in eye bolt, come down and lower it ready for the next one

I was told long ago to use smaller plasterboard - 4x2 IIRC - not only for my dodgy back but also the ease of supporting it whilst inserting sufficient fixings to hold it.

All the methods end up costing more. Smaller pieces, including my thinner sheets require more metal supports for rigidity. Kerching! OH's knee was dickey the last time we went to collect some and it was a real struggle to get them onto the trailer. An employee sat on his forklift and watched with a fag waiting for us to finish so he could get past.

That's it then we should all adapt a European wide " I'm too old" test to see if we can lift a a bloody plasterboard It was great to see I am not on my own. I am 68 and have given up, when I was first in France 25 years back cement and sand was sold in 50 kilo bags that was a struggle now they are 40 kilos still a struggle let alone the 20 litre bags of compost PS bet some of you can remember the coal man always with a hundred weight sack on his back we must be going soft

I used to be able to throw bags of horse feed around as if they were nothing, but no longer...

In the UK they were 20kg, but here 25kg - so I blame that extra 5kg!

Agree[mention]basquesteve[/mention] way back in the last century when working with my brother on building sites we took on anything to get established, unloading 30 ton cement lorries at 50k a bag, 25,000 bricks in half an hour by hand using a brick clamp which held 8 bricks.
Thinking back we were either super fit or completely stupid.
Now lifting a 30 kilo bag of cement I need my OTHs help, used to push in the wheel barrow ten 15cm concrete blocks now four.
But still life is great.

I didn't mind the grinding (hot sparks) and finishing (noxious paint fumes) but the real killer was manhandling an old Oxford oil-filled arc welder or a pair of oxy/acetylene gas bottles around a building site. Wheels were of no use, only lifting or in my case dragging was the only method.
It paid the bills but didn't do a lot for my already damaged spine.

One of my earliest jobs was a plasterer in Bristol during the early 70's was working in a new Bristol Evening post printing press site, it had to be open plan to get the machinery in During the winter it was too cold for plaster to set but the welders were pushing the old gear about in the mud and frost terrible, The highlight one day was a acetylene bottle falling over breaking its neck and going of like a cruise missile, It mucked up our card game I changed jobs as a result and for while was a banker/ insurance broker in London but that's another story
