Nothing is 100% perfect. From memory did he not have a ticket or did not stop when challenged?

He was on his way to work and because he looked foreign they thought he was a terrorist from an attempted suicide bombing that had happened a few days before.
He paid for a ticket with his oyster card got onto a train and they shot him.
I don't think that's the only case of someone being killed due to mistaken identity, and the problem with your theory is that once someone is dead you can't bring them back if you've made a mistake.

While I agree mistakes are made the police have to make a choice possibly in seconds.
Bad intel and they got that one wrong.

Mind you, it did not affect the career of Cressida Dick (though I guess she ticked two boxes).

Look at what happened in Stretham. Known to have terrorist leanings, recently realised from jail.He was wearing a mock suicide vest and had stabbed two people ,seriously but not fatal. He was shot by firearms as he ran towards one of them with the knife pointing at him,and still the police were criticised

I am reading a book at the moment about Harry Roberts who murdered a policeman, and caused the death of 2 others, back in 1966. He has, within the last few years, been released on strict licence after more than 50 years behind bars. I can't imagine anything worse, or more appropriate, than that as a punishment.
Exactly, and the same goes for the death penalty, mistakes can't be rectified, quite apart from the, imo, much worse punishment of life in prison.I don't think that's the only case of someone being killed due to mistaken identity, and the problem with your theory is that once someone is dead you can't bring them back if you've made a mistake

Totally agree, and then if they've made a mistake and convicted the wrong person or people at least they can be set free - they may have lost some years of normal life, but at least they'd still be alive.
