"I do agree though that the NI construct needs to be revised. Why an upper limit? and why stop collecting NI contributions when you reach 65 (or is it 66 now?)? At least adding it to Income tax would resolve those issues."
I can see your logic there. And I do see why the younger workers may be objecting to subsidising the oldies who usually need more meds, care, etc. I listened to a bit of discussion this morning on the radio and what struck me as a partial solution would be for everyone with an income (earned, interest on shares, private pensions, etc.) should pay a percentage regardless of age. It seems grossly unfair that a pensioner having income from savings, shares, and private pension incomes on top of the state pension should be allowed to stop paying into the pot. In other words, means testing. So they stop the triple lock (I assume that means guaranteeing an annual rise in state pension based on the cost of living index) because they assume we are all raking it in as retirees and don't need the cash. They turn a blind eye to those who have nothing more than the basic state pension (or less!) and think we won't miss it while we bask in the sun next to our pools watching the hired help sort out the garden and polish the Jag. Mps can vote themselves a pay rise when times get tight. What can pensioners do?

On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

So my 3% pay rise will become 1.75 %. At least it’s better than the police who got 0% so will be in minus figures

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it may be a tad less as the 1.25% NI will apply to the 3% increase as well as the current amount.
But think positive, Boris did clap for you.

The Labour party also are worried as theyoppose the lifting of the 15 year voting limit as we, as we sit by our pools with our aperos, will be sending massive donations to the Tories.

But surely all you loads-a-money pensioners living the high life abroad have come from wealthy and staunchly Conservative areas - so your votes will have minimal impact?

Meanwhile, the new money already has found more snouts for the trough:
The Government’s Health and Care Bill includes the creation of 42 chief executives of integrated care boards in England, whose job will be to “deliver joined-up services” incorporating the NHS and social care providers.
Each will be paid an average of £223,000, with seven of them advertising salaries of £270,000, or 80 per cent more than the Prime Minister earns.

Also, I saw that very little would trickle into the Care Home system for possibly three years. So those working there, already under strain, will actually get less in their own pockets, with no gain anywhere. No wonder Carers are choosing to go and work for Amazon instead.
How does that Govt. keep getting away with all this, in broad daylight too?

BJ said Covid 19 was not in the Tory manifesto. Pity - It wouldn't have happened.
