Speaking as someone who has always condemned, and continues to condemn, the attempted, genocide of the native Americans I think there is a world of difference between:

whether the treatment of Native Americans had been “exaggerated”.

which is an acceptable question to pose, as it promotes discussion with the aim of persuading those who believe it has, and

to what extent do you believe the treatment of Native Americans has been exaggerated?

which infers it as a given fact, and therefore not open to discussion.

I was fighting cookie panels when reading it but I believe the latter was the question posed, and therefore is right to be withdrawn.

But I am with [mention]MAD87[/mention] the tearing down of historical statues is not the way to educate, and to say that 'polite explaining over half a century' has failed and thus anarchy is the only answer, is wrong.

Unlike many in France I do not regard Napoleon as a hero, more a traitor to the Revolution, and a promoter of empire. But I wouldn't advocate tearing down a statue of him.

Me too, and I have read any number of heartbreaking books on the subject to the extent that I hardly ever watch westerns anymore.

I was just about to say the same thing, Spardo. How we liked the old Westerns as children - here comes the Cavalry, get those Indians. Now, can't watch them as realise how wrong it was that the Native Indians were treated so dreadfully.
