UK Passport Expiry

I have recently renewed my passport and the unexpired time of my old passport was not added to the expiry of my new passport.

It is not clear what you mean by French ID card?

It's a Titre de Sejour valid until 2031 - permanent - Article 50, says my nationality (GBR) and my birth date. From what you say, I will need a passport to renew this in 2031? (I'm not intending to be around then!)

I have 2 brothers who I have no contact with. Otherwise, friends tend to visit me.

In these days of trying to pare down money, I don't know how much a passport costs but it's a book which I have no intention of using and, on my death, will be full of empty pages. If I have another form of ID then I don't see why I need one - hence my question.

If you come across an officious person requiring proof of identity, then your Titre de Sejour does not cut the mustard nor a driving licence, nor your carte vitale. We have indeed found such an individual on hospital admissions - so beware.

Such people do seem to be rare thankfully but if they do crop up they can make your life quite difficult. This particular individual was also unhappy when the passport was produced that it did not show OH's maiden name. Talk about jobsworth. Thankfully we had a certified copy of her birth certificate - which alone would also not have been accepted as proof of identity.

There are red outer covers you can buy that will hide the blue colour, so, at a first glance, you will seem more part of the crowd

Just asking........ my passport expired last month. Do I HAVE to renew it? I'm not planning on going anywhere. I've got the French ID card.

I'm in the same situation. I have no family in UK and no intention of going back to that disaster zone for any reason. Hopefully the French authorities won't require an up to date passport at some time in the future. I have better things to spend my money on.

I'm in the same position ie no family in the UK and no intention of going back - I've not visited the UK since we left in 2007 however I know from my experience in France how valuable my passport is to me as proof of ID for all of the gov. form filling etc and I wouldn't be without it. IMHO it makes life a whole lot easier as the French accept it without question and yes I have a 10 yr TDS/CV, I don't drive so no driving licence. I try to make my/our lives 'simples'. Someone above asked the cost of a UK passport. We renewed ours this year the cost was £105.86 each that included the postage. Then add on the cost of postage this end for returning the old passports - that depends on the method you choose.

How difficult life is becoming since my retirement here!! So I suppose you recommend that I renew the bl***y passport then? It's really annoying as I have been thru' the hoops producing my birth certificate and all other manner of official documentation just for my CV then the Titre!!! And my driving licence is French - I had to have a medical!!!

Is this to hide the fact that you are NOT American? I believe they are dark blue.
