Put your heating on yet?

I have been buying, of late, pallets of wood from Bricomarche, it's not cheap but it comes in smaller split pieces either 50 or 33 cm, and it's clean, if I buy from the woodman it is around 50 cm and can be thick so not convenient, and it normally works out about 200€, just tipped on the floor, so I have to stack it away.

Feeling a bit ripped off by my wood man I have been thinking about buying from Brico Depot. They have stock in at the moment and it looks very good, as you say it is clean and uniformly split. I just need to find out the price.

I agree about the work involved with a woodburner and the dust it creates but I can't use a little lpg room heater or a petrole one. The burning of pretty much anything creates a toxic by product of some sort and in a closed environment those portable heaters affect my breathing in a matter of minutes.

I usually put my heating on from the beginning of November, but I actually started it on Sunday as it was a bit chilly during the evening. However when I received my gas règlement on Wednesday I turned down the thermostat. I have a chimney in the living room and my Woodman cuts my logs to 35cm and stacks it for me, it keeps the chill off and reduce the use of gas.

I had a wood stove in the early 80s, when I lived in a Kent cottage) but after one very hard, snowy winter when I had to move the logs from the store at the far end of the plot to one closer to the house (around 40 mètres) I vowed never again to rely solely on wood.

Heating here (all electric) set to come on when temp drops to 60 so it's not kicked in yet but my electric cooker is on all year round so gives off a lovely bit of heat. I have succumbed to a woolly jumper with thermal long sleeve underneath - love my thermals - leggings will be out and on next under the jeans Crikey doesn't that make me sound old - well I am We have a wood burner in the sitting room but it very rarely gets used just Christmas and when visitors arrive in winter. When it's lit the sitting room door has to be open cos I find that I get a stuffy nose as if the air has been drawn out of the room.

So it is is me you are talking to, the answer is yes, down to 2 lengths now to avoid the brain freeze but it is so refreshing and I really look forward to it, morning and evening. Water temp has gone up a bit today to 12c, for the last week or so, 11c. But it feels no more of a shock getting in than it did at over 20c in July.

Which reminds me [mention]Sparkle[/mention] are you still on Fahrenheit, I have no idea what 60 is anymore? I do hope so, 60c is well on the way to boiling.

Yes of course I muddled you two up. I must get used to reading just more than the first 4 letters of a username! Perhaps Sparkle could come and have a dip in your pond Spardo?

For some reason, I always easily remember 16C = 61F so I guess 60F is just a smidgen below 61F - perhaps 60F? I think the official ruling for heating in the workplace meant that at below 61F (or perhaps 63F) the place had to be heated. Of course, schools never came into that category.
