I don't think the Falklands is comparable. You are talking about an invasion by another country here on one which is inhabited by British citizens.

I don't suppose that the UK government are bigging up the threat as a diversion to local issues. I mean they would not do that. Would they?
You are correct they wouldn't.
They may or may not be bigging up the threat, but they would certainly use it as another dead cat opportunity - they absolutely would.

Whilst I agree another "dead cat" will be welcomed I do not think anything would be different were the UK and US Governments not having trouble.

The interests of the MIC go back to the 60s and the US meddling in Ukraine and the vested interests of Joe "Big Guy" Biden goes back to 2014.

Very true. That was an actual, not threatened, invasion by a foreign power. I always thought though that if the assistance of other Nato countries had been more forthcoming at the start many lives could have been saved. The rather grudging help from Regan, in thrall to Margaret, and from Mitterand, also in thrall in a different way, was decisive. Also the fairly covert support from Chile and Brazil, a common detestation of the 'superior' Argentinians, was critical.

I had heard the Argentinians described as a nation of Italians who speak Spanish but consider themselves English and, as with all generalisations inaccurate, but not without some validity. I had my own taxi in Nottingham at the time and one of my regulars was the housekeeper of a large house kept by Boots on the University campus for entertaining visiting important people, and she asked me how I thought it would turn out. I replied convinced that they would be turfed out, but that I was very sad as I had had nothing but help and friendliness shown towards me during a short time as a seafarer 'on the beach' in Argentina, after missing my ship at the end of a period of shore leave.

"Dead cat" was probably not correct term to use there (I'm not good with correct terms!).

Thatcher was in trouble and looked like loosing the election so manufactured something to stay in power. Very similar to johnson and biden.

After this afternoon’s events, perhaps Johnson’s planned trip to Ukraine is to claim asylum.

Listening to various comments on radio, I'm wondering how much of the actual report will ever become public.
And wonder how much cash madame Gray is being offered by the media for an exclusive peek at the report.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

@rsm
I'm intrigued by how Thatcher managed to arrange that the Argentinians would invade The Falklands! :crazy:
