I still stand by my accusation that the CPS do go for the worst scenario
Hughnique, the CPS wasn't around 50 years ago: it was founded in 1986.
When I worked there (Hampshire/Dorset), we were chronically understaffed and staff turnover was high. In the last few years, staffing has been further cut by 30%, so there's really no time for "choosing the worst scenario". The police charge the accused and the CPS only comes into it at/or just before the 1st hearing (magistrates' court), to adjust charges if necessary and to organise collection of extra evidence if needed.

As for the police, the vast majority are honest. There are over 200k in the police force and there will always be a few who can't act fairly. That's called human nature.

On top of that, you can add political pressure on both the police and CPS, underfunding and understaffing - no different really from the NHS and fire service (and no doubt a shedload of other public services).

Well, I suppose on page 5 this has proved to be a good thread for the forum. However, I have a problem with some of the language /terminology used in some of the posts. I wonder is some post authors would talk to their partners, children or grandchildren in the terms they use here.

Yes you are quite right "If I don't like it, I don't need to read it" which is what I did following the early posts. Regrettably, I looked in on the current page to see whether things had improved given it had gone to 5 pages.

How often do we hear that "the CPS has decided there is insufficient evidence" ? I suggest it is the opposite of the above.

Sure, we get exceptions like the Mark Pearson case and your Mr.A (if that was CPS) - but I think those are just that - the exception.

Chronic staff shortages/work overload meant the CPS solicitor sometimes only had time to read the summary sheet before coming into court. It was impressive what they could do with a well-prepared file.

It’s common knowledge in policing circles that the CPS will ‘reduce ‘ a crime if there is a more realistic chance of getting a conviction

Since when has common decency turned into a snowflake thing? I don't think @Loup-garou was talking about the word bollocks, but more about the language used when talking about people.
I'm sure if anyone referred to Hughnique's wife as an old trout he'd probably give them a good hiding, likewise if someone called him or his son scum.

I haven't seen, or have any intention of ever watching the programme concerned. I hadn't heard of it until this thread was started and I googled it. What amazes me though, reading through the newspapers, is that people seem to think it's perfectly OK to run a motorbike off the road in a large four wheel drive vehicle, because the people on the bike attempted to break into a garage. He could have killed someone, and then he would have been in more trouble than just serving 7 months in prison.
No wonder the worlds in the mess it's in.

I hope the go fund me page raises a lot of money for them, they may well need it, because according to the newspaper reports the guys on the bike are suing him.

Yes there’s talk about them suing for a million,this will of course be no way encouraged by the publicity of the go fund me
FWIW the majority of police officers seem to have no issue with the motorists sentence ,they do agree the punishment for the would be thieves should have been more

You can't be sure I don't refer to her as such, as far as the other gentlemen are concerned, what would you suggest we refer to them as. Again, you have no intention of watching the programme, but are basing your opinion on newspaper articles, something which evidently is totally fabricated, and or is sensationalised to increase the sales of said publications. As for the offending gentlemen suing the driver, not surprised in the least, and suspect somewhere along the line the general public will be picking up the bill, unless it is a no win, no fee, outfit, I expect the no comment, will disappear out of the window if and when they get something to shut about in the civil court
