@niemeyjt I don't think she's a selller, but a seer. She throws the sparrowgrass bunch in the air and depending on how they fall, you'll have a long and happy reign or get fed up seeing Truss every week and go back to the farm.

What does slim down the monarchy really mean ? It could be argued he has already started with laying off staff. There won't be any cuts in the hangers on, a few headlines then back to business as usual.

It's the same speculation that Charles will abdicate in favour of his son as it was that the Queen would abdicate in favour of Charles. He's waited a long time for this, why should he throw it all away ? In his own way he wants to serve the country which wouldn't be possible if he stepped down.

Naturally some of his offices and staff will no longer be needed as he changes jobs and the press will shout "staff sacked" "staff out of a job" to sell newspapers etc.

I think slimming down refers to the hangers-on - remember the Kents under the Queen's reign? Not the flunkies in the various Palaces - who I guess will be made redundant as a result.

Getting rid of Andrew and his offspring is a good start.

Well for those who think the French had no real interest in QE II, perhaps they can explain

I have to say even I was surprised.

Yes, that was announced very quickly after HRH's death. A lovely touch, I think, and the perfect Birthday present for my Queen-loving sister in the UK (just have to be careful when I send them, with the current postal strikes going on over there! )
