Woke up this morning to hear a cockerel crow which was strange as we or the neighbours don't have one.
Just heard it again so I went to investigate & found our oldest chook, affectionally known as Mummy Chook because she was a good layer & has brooded many chicks, strutting around crowing. She's ? developing wattles & all the signs of a cock bird.
Don't mind the old gal transitioning as long as she doesn't wake everyone up early but a bit weird :)

On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Not just chickens either. One of our past cats was found to have male inside bits when I took her to the vet to be neutered. The vet enthusiastically showed me the bloody bits in a kidney bowl and explained that it was rare. A first for him, but he was thrilled.

:o Well that may explain why I've thought a couple of our cats appeared to be homosexual! 8-)

A client has a couple of chickens, on their own, and one often likes to cock-a-doodle-doo to confuse the neighbours! Maybe she's the one who doesn't lay eggs so often....

We used to have a hen that became a cock, too.
Maybe not that uncommon.
