Yes very bad, seen it also on France3 news
On the other hand have you seen the floods in the UK, London, Manchester, Salford to name a few.
In the Guardian and the I. Not seen anything on uk news though.

It's not the first time Greece has had a problem with fires, but it's terrible to see people losing their homes and property - and livelihoods. My thoughts are also with the animals and insects that can't get away, or are left behind. Does it seem worse than what's happening in California/Oregon because it's so much closer to home ?

Not sure if the case this time, but certainly in the past the Greek fires were set deliberately to bypass planning issues and the lack of a proper land register.

That's just unspeakably stupid - what sort of mentality must you have to do something like that deliberately. Beggars belief.

It's my understanding that in France planning permission is held up for several years for any new builds on land that has been scorched.

With summer due to start tomorrow (
) here at least the ground is sodden so wildfires are less of a worry this year for now...
How do people live without at least one dog in the house?

Enjoying the benefits of living in very close proximity to forest on 3 sides, I nonetheless do have a worry about fire. I have told Fran that if she sees even a small fire when I am away from the house to dial the neighbour (ex-pompier) and make sure the pompiers know about my large swimming pond as a source of water while they unroll 500 metres down the hill to the hydrant.
Fortunately the thickest and closest forest is to the north and east while the prevailing winds are always from the SW.

Have a look at some of the guidelines from the US on trees, trimming, distances etc - may be useful e.g. https://www.nfpa.org/Public-Education/F ... r-wildfireSpardo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 09, 2021 9:34 am Enjoying the benefits of living in very close proximity to forest on 3 sides, I nonetheless do have a worry about fire.
