Why are socks sold in sizes 35-38 & 39-42 ???? I fall somewhere between 38 and 39 which is more than unfortunate. If I buy 35-38, they inevitably shrink no matter how carefully washed and 39-42 means the heel is half way up to my ankle, and they don't seem to shrink.

The only socks I've found that place my size in the middle are Adidas sports socks. But I don't necessarily want to wear sports socks all the time ....

I've often bought children's jeans/slacks but never socks. One foot is 39, t'other is 40, so I have to buy a generous size, usually sports socks (the type that doesn't cover the ankle).

I’ve recently started buying “ Bamboo No Show Trainer Socks for Womens and Men - 8 Pairs Non Slip Low Cut Ankle Socks Sneaker Invisible Footies Loafers Casual Boat Shoes” from Amazon, costing £11.95.

I buy the larger size and find that they keep my feet cosy and comfortable and I don’t have marks round my ankles due to my ankles swelling during the day when I wear my usual ankle socks.

I thought they might be a bit chilly now that temperatures are cooler, but they keep my feet warm enough and I wear some as bedsocks. I wash them by hand; don’t much go for handwashing much but do tbese in the shower.

Bit late to this thread  I haven't worn ankle socks for the last 2 years due to swelling feet and ankles and not even the M&S soft top socks helped. So, I now buy sheepskin insoles for all of my shoes and slippers. I don't suffer from cold feet and sometimes I have to remove my slippers cos my feet are sooo hot!

@Polly you reminded me that I wash my pants whilst having a shower :D It's something my mum did daily back in the 1960s when she took her bath and I've copied her. There was always knickers hanging over the bath taps to drip dry

Sparkle that reminds me of living in a shared house with three other young women in the mid-70s, tights and undies draped all over the place!
How do people live without at least one dog in the house?
